Ten Dunes Abbey Museum

Here you can feel the history! In the Middle Ages, the Duinenabdij defined the Koksijd landscape. A visit to the Abbey Museum marvels at unique collection pieces archaeologists found on site, the abbey history and the important role of the Duinen lords in the region. Highly recommended are the archaeological site, the South Abbey Mill and the Ten Bogaerde Abbey Farm just down the road. There, the art center houses the permanent collection of George Grard.

Hoge Blekker

The Hoge Blekker is the eye-catcher of our coast and owes its name to it. At 33 meters, it is the tallest dune in the entire coastal strip. It was a fixed beacon for sailors who could see its white crown shining from afar ("blekken" in the local dialect). The Hoge Blekker is a sturdy shifting dune that has traveled quite a distance over time.

Villa district 'Quartier Sénégalais'

This neighborhood was built starting in 1908. You can admire spacious cottages, which housed large families and their maids, mostly designed by Gaston Lejeune. The construction of this district strikes a balance between unity and freedom. From the Bad Schallerbach square, where the Manneken Pis of Koksijde stands, a tangle of avenues starts, to which small streets connect. This reflects the English garden suburb idea. In order to obtain a varied streetscape, twin villas were alternated with single houses. This urbanistic idea can also be found in De Panne (Dumont district), De Haan (the Concession), Knokke and Westende. Since Koksijde-Bad was established around the first decades of the 20th century and the cottage style was also particularly fashionable then, this style became image-defining for Koksijde-Bad. The quarter was protected as a village conservation area in 2001.

Church of Our Lady of the Dunes

Our Lady of the Dunes Church, also called the "cathedral of light," is a Catholic church in Koksijde-Bad. This parish church dates from 1956-1962 and was designed by architect Jozef Lantsoght (1912-1988). Its floor plan was inspired by the cockle, a shellfish from which Koksijde may have gotten its name.
